The Naked V-Log Campaign - http://youtube.com/watch?v=BLatO1nWzMk
Youtube is a website that allows people to create thier own account and upload as many videos as they want. The main technologies involved are the internet, broadband connection - which is fast enough to allow the videos to play, and digital video. Youtube itself it replacing television, as many people are turning on thier computer to watch youtube videos rather than turning on the television.
On the Youtube homepage, there is a list of featured videos, videos being watched right now and a trailor for a new film in cinemas. There is a section of all videos, organised by genre such as comedy, entertainment, non-profit organisation etc. There is also a section for communities where people can browse groups and video contests which allows people to find exactly what they want. The wide range of different featured videos, genres and groups allows youtube to appeal to a very wide audience as there can be something for everyone.
The Key concepts involved are immediacy, narrowcasting, democratisation, horrizontal networking, proliferation and regulation.
Immediacy - With broadband connection, most websites are immediate and allows the videos to play with high resolution.
Narrowcasting - Due to the fact that anyone can upload a video, youtube can target very niche groups that cannot access media linked to thier interests elsewhere.
Democratisation - More and more people can now afford digital cameras and computers, along with the fact that Youtube allows anyone to upload a video (unless it is offensive), everyone has the same opportunity to upload thier videos and get themselves noticed.
Horizontal Networking - People can subscribe to other users channels and can invite friends to view thier own videos, people can also find others videos via the search bar, using key words, as well as through browsing, this is a form of file sharing and allows everyone access and comment thier videos.
Proliferation - Youtube has millions of videos uploaded from arround the world, with more being added every minute. It is currently the largest video sharing website in the world.
Regulation - Most of the videos on Youtube can be regulated and people under 18 cannot access videos with adult content. Other viewers can report a video if it contains unsuitable content.
